A former commissioner for works and transport in Oyo State, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has revealed how Pa Akinola Ojebode, who died last week, asked him to visit him last August.

Akintunde, who hails from the same Oyo West local government with the late foremost All Progressives Congress, APC, leader, said he would be sorely missed.

According to him, the late politician told him how he would love many politicians to attend his burial, not knowing that death was lurking.

“On getting to his house, he asked the person who brought me to excuse us. He did same for members of his household who were around too. It was between the two of us. He told me that when he was no more, we should make sure that many politicians attend his burial than any other group of persons because he devoted many of his active years to politics. I asked how that would be possible since I am not one of his sons or close family members, he immediately placed a call to one of his sons, introducing us. I didn’t know he saw what we did not. Not long after the meeting, I recalled speaking with him when I was with interior minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

“It saddens me that we are losing those who can help us with our current situation as a party. Though they died at ripe ages, the death of Chief Samuel Ogundiran, Chief Adelere, Chief Samuel Farinu, Chief Solomon Akindele and now Chief Akin Ojebode rob us all of many things.

“They are unifying factors and it is unfortunate that they died when we needed them. However, there is no questioning God. I will just advise us to use this medium to close ranks and prepare for future elections,” Akintunde added.
