The Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile in Orire Local Government of Oyo State, Oba Abdul-Yekeen Oladipupo and the Chairman of Orire Local Goverment, Hon. Lidea Bankole have given different account over what led to the invasion of Tewure, a community in the council, by thugs and hoodlums.
In his account, the monarch alledged that the council boss was responsible for the attack. On a contrary note, the council chairman explained that the monarch and the Baale of Tewure community, were responsible for the incident.
OYOINSIGHT recalls that there was tension in Tewure following the invasion of the community by hoodlums where no fewer than eight people were reportedly matcheted, while others sustained injuries.
The clash was said to have involved the Ilorin extraction of Tewure and Ogbomosho people living in Tewure’s community over what was linked to land matters and chieftaincy tussle in the community.
The Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile, Oba Abdul-Yekeen Oladipupo, while speaking with our correspondent in his palace said that the council boss, Hon. Bankole, who hails from the same town (Ogbomosho) with her predecessor caused the clash claiming that Tewure’s community and its environs belongs to Ogbomosho and it should be controlled by Soun of Ogbomosho, not the Onikoyi.
The monarch who is the permanent chairman of Orire Local Government Traditional Council maintained that Ikoyi was never among Soun of Ogbomosho’s jurisdiction, arguing that only
Onikoyi has control on Tewure and its environ, adding that Nigeria gazette of 1917 also affirmed this.
He said, “Ogbomosho was initially under Osun division, Ogbomosho district, while Ikoyi was under Oyo division, Ikoyi district, in fact, Soun was one of the part2 Oba’s then, and Onikoyi was a first class monarch in Ikoyi district’.
He however called on Governor, Seyi Makinde to intervene on the issue, called Bankole to order, release of seven innocent Tewure’s people who were arrested and detained over the issue.
Meanwhile, the Caretaker Chairman, Orire Local Goverment, Hon. Mrs. Lidea Bankole when contacted on phone debunked the allegations, saying that all the allegations were false and malicious.
The council boss noted that it was the cult group initiated by the Baale of Tewure, Chief Lamidi Sanni that unleashed mayhem on the people, adding that the law enforcement
agency had started investigating what really transpired, and all the culprits has been arrested and remanded.
She said, “How will the Chief Security Officer of the Council hired thugs to attack his people? Tewure people have been living peacefully before the Baale from Ilorin extraction with the help of Onikoyi took loads of thugs to attacked people.”
The Oyo State Police Command Public
Relations Officer, Gbenga Fadeyi said he has details on the issue for now, promising to get back to journalists after investigation.
