Barely 24 hours after he was denied access to a live programme at Parrot FM radio station in Ogbomoso, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has kicked against the suspension of 3 LAUTECH student union executives by the school authority for allowing him access to the school campus on Wednesday’s afternoon to interact with the students.
In a statement signed on his behalf by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the PDP candidate said that LAUTECH students should count themselves as heroes and they will be treated as such the moment he wins the gubernatorial election on Saturday.
“All glories of the Institution will be restored and those who fight for its emancipation will be honoured,” he said.
According to Makinde, freedom of association is one of the hallmarks of democracy and student unionism is actually a traditional tool to a free society but bringing barracks mentality into the citadel of knowledge shows how deep the current administrative have sunk in our darling state.
According to Makinde, the union president, general secretary and public relations officer who have been unjustly punished should count themselves lucky for being symbols of everyday oppression in the state and the incoming administration will not forget their exploits and those of their colleagues
