The gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Oyo State Engr Seyi Makinde has paid the NECO examinations fee of 19 prisoners at the Agodi prison yard in Ibadan today and also promised to provide them qualified teachers and text books.
At a brief ceremony after meeting with the beneficiaries, Makinde told the Oyo state comptroller of Prisons, Mr Tosin Akinrujomu, that he was encouraged by the determination of the prisoners to forge ahead with their lives, the distraction of prison life notwithstanding.
In a statement issued by the Seyi Makinde Campaign Organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the PDP candidate promised to do more for all underprivileged in the state saying that his Administration will be devoted to the challenges of the under privileged.
Reacting to the comments of the spokesman for the prisoners, Makinde
said he was surprised that this is the first time that prisoners will be sitting for examinations since the Agodi prison was established in 1894, saying that his gesture will be wider in scope if he gets elected as governor next year.
On the state of education in oyo state, Engr Makinde lamented government’s abdication of it’s role and promised to turn all schools into model schools and not just a handful.
He also promised to restore the number of students per class to 30 with enough motivated teachers in schools.
