Lowo Obisesan’s Tirade: A Joke Taken Too Far | Afeez Bolaji Repete

I read with amusement the claims by Barrister Lowo Obisesan, a Gubernatorial aspirant of the African Democratic Government (ADC) and Labour Party in the last two elections, alluding that the elected state executives of the party will be dissolved to make way for new executives. This is after he had put the blame for the Party’s loss of the gubernatorial seat on Senator Abiola Ajimobi, his erstwhile boss who brought his name to political limelight.

The supposed reconciliatory committee is neither commissioned by the party nor known to its leadership either at the National, Zonal or state level. Although, he was given an opportunity to serve in government by the same Senator Ajimobi who he chooses to malign at every given opportunity, he had been sacked and he subsequently joined the Labour party in the run in to 2015 while the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) merged with other parties to form the APC and thus never joined the party. It is thus funny that a legal practitioner, should know about _locus standi_ can claim to lead a committee in a party which he isn’t even a member of. If he is interested in joining the party and serving it in any capacity, he’d be accommodated as long as he follows the right procedure, which doesn’t include membership via junketeering and Press Statements. He and other like him may refer to Ogun and Edo states where political heavyweights recently joined the party and were formally received.

The party and its leadership remain committed to genuine reconciliation to make it more formidable as we face future election. The state executives have demonstrated willingness to welcome progressives back into to the fold and are willing to make necessary sacrifices to strengthen the party. However, the party will not be railroaded by people who have made little or no positive contribution to the party and its fortunes.
