African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has assured the people of the state that a government to be led by him from 29 May, 2019, will revamp the local government system and organise free, fair and credible polls in the 33 local governments of the state.
Lanlehin said well-funded councils run by officials elected by the populace in a credible election would engender effective administration in the third tier of government that would also “speedily deliver democratic dividends to the grassroots.”
He gave this assurance in Lalupon, Lagelu Local Government Area of the state, while campaigning across Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, in continuation of his governorship campaigns round the state.
The ADC candidate, who berated the All Progressives Congress-led government in the state for neglecting the local councils, which he said should have been at the forefront of grassroots development, called on the people to vote the ADC as the only party committed to improving the people’s welfare.
“We will ensure the local government system operates as it should, is well funded, and is responsive to the yearnings of the people.
“With our people-centered aspiration and policy thrust, we need a local government that operates well, so our democratic dividends reach our people quicker,” he said.
Lanlehin, who had earlier met the Council of Baales and Chiefs in the local government, promised the construction of rural roads and inner city roads, to improve the distribution of farm produce to markets, and bring development to the rural areas.
The Baales and Chiefs later implored him not to forget the promises made now when he eventually wins the coming governorship election, with the ADC candidate assuring them of maximum cooperation, respect and trust, saying, as a man of good conscience, he would keep close to his chest, all promises being made.
“Our government will embark on people-centered contract, which will factor in our artisans, provide job for them, and facilitate free flow of money in the state economy. That way, the state’s economy is revamped, and prosperity is spread,” Lanlehin assured.
In her remarks, the Senator representing Oyo Central, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, extolled the virtues of Senator Lanlehin, describing him as “a perfect gentleman, a man of integrity, and a lover of the people.”
Senator Sunmonu told the gathering that for a man like Lanlehin, with political experience cutting across the three arms of government and a clean public record devoid of any corruption charges, supporting him is the best decision any lover of the people can take.
Decampees from APC, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Zenith LP and PDP numbering about 3,000 were received into the ADC fold by Senator Lanlehin, who welcomed them into the “winners fold”, and assured them of equality in the grand scheme of things.
On Lanlehin’s campaign entourage was the Director General of his campaign, Alhaji Basiru Lawal; his deputies, Honourable Omotayo Oyetunji; Ladi Oluokun and Honourable Lanre Agoro, representing Oyo Central, South and North, respectively.
Others included the state chairman, Dr Ahmed Ayinla; secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Emiola; Honourable Yemi Aderibigbe, ADC candidate in Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency and Honourable Biliaminu Oye, candidate for Lagelu State Constituency.
In a related development, Lanlehin’s governorship campaign organisation is to be formally inaugurated on Thursday, 17 January, 2019, at JOGOR Centre, Ibadan.
In a statement by the organisation’s Director, Media, Publicity and Protocol, Lanre Ogundipe, the inauguration is to set the stage for an organised, structured and coordinated campaign, and to ensure the SOLAN Agenda is better articulated.
Ogundipe added that leaders, supporters and loyalists of Lanlehin and the ADC were expected at the event.
