The lawmaker representing Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Muhammad Kola Balogun, on Saturday, presented a mini grant to scores of constituents.
The grant, which the lawmaker facilitated through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, was distributed to boost the business of the beneficiaries from all local government areas in the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Senator Balogun, noted that he, not the constituents, should be expressing his gratitude.
“In a democratic state, residents elect leaders. Without your vote, I won’t be in this position today and I want to assure you that I will continue to discharge my responsibilities beyond what you expect.
“I am not thinking about 2023; I am still working towards the mandate you gave me in 2019. I am concerned about what people will say about me even when I have left office.
“What you will get today is a grant; you don’t have to refund it. This will not be end of it,” he noted.
Earlier at the event SMEDAN Manager in Oyo State, Mrs. Ojogbede Iyabo Mabel, noted that the agency was designed to monitor the growth of small and medium scale business.
“We are here today because of one one of our programs which was facilitated by the Senator: empowerment,” she said.
The head of MKB support team, Mr. Omilakun Gandi in his opening speech, lauded the lawmaker for facilitating the grants.
“Senator Balogun is an hardworking lawmaker. It is rare for a first time lawmaker to facilitate an empowerment program of this magnitude,” he added.
