The Chairman, Oyo State Waste Management Authority, OYWMA, Mr. Morounfolu Adelore, has reportedly been suspended by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Makinde, OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt, also suspended the board of OYWMA, over inability to perform as it should.
The governor, however, revealed that he has set up an ad-hoc committee to take over the responsibility of collecting and managing waste generated in the state with the provision of skip bins at specific locations across the state pending the time the board of OYWMA will correct its wrongdoings.
The governor was said to have dropped the shocker on Thursday, during his 60th Independence State’s address.
Makinde was said to have noted that the state capital has been taken over by dirts, which, he added, has become an eyesore for his administration.
Saying that his administration spends N37 million monthly to manage waste contractors and evacuators towards clearing refuse off the street, he was quoted to have said that OYWMA board allegedly demanded N46 million before it could carry out tasks that are far lesser than that of the waste contractors and evacuators.
