Two lawmakers staged a walkout on Tuesday as the Oyo State House of Assembly received the report of its committee on the review of the Council of Obas and Chiefs which proposed a new rotational chairmanship between the Alaafin, Olubadan and Soun.

OYOINSIGHT.COM gathered that the committee in its report proposed that the permanent chairmanship clause in the bill should be replaced with a rotational chairmanship between the Alaafin, Olubadan and Soun on a two-year term, deleting the permanent presiding officer role initially vested in the Alaafin.

The Committtee also recommend that the Samu and Agbakin should be included as members of the Council of Obas and Chiefs.

Reacting to the committee’s proposal that the leadership of the council become rotational, two lawmakers, Rahaman Olorunpoto and Gbenga Oyekola of Oyo East/Oyo West and Atiba State Constituencies respectively staged a walkout.

OYOINSIGHT.COM has extensively reported how the move by the House of Assembly mirrors the vendetta-driven step taken by the administration of former Governor Alao Akala against the late Alaafin Adeyemi III.
