Two former members of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Moroof Akinwande and Hon. Kameel Akinlabi have clinched the House of Representatives’ tickets of the African Democratic Congress, ADC and Action Democratic Party, ADP in AFIJIO, Atiba, Oyo East, Oyo West federal constituency.
They are to contest the seat alongside sons of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Princes Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh) and ‘Bayo Adeyemi (D-Gov) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, respectively.
Akinlabi, Akinwande’s successor, defected from the APC to the ADP after failing to get the party’s ticket.
Akinwande, a veterinary doctor, represented the constituency between 2003 and 2007 while Skimeh, a former chairman of Atiba local government, is the incumbent. Akinlabi, Skimeh’s predecessor, represented the constituency between 2007 and 2015. D-Gov is a former secretary of Oyo West local government.
OYO INSIGHT had reported how Akinwande, while submitting his nomination form, said that the need to reenact what he did almost 11 years ago motivated him to join the race.
According to the Akinwande, who is the immediate past chairman of the Federal Capital Territory secondary education board, “Ordinarily, I would not have come out. However, I cannot fold my arms while our people continuously yearn for a change, a better representation. They know I have done it before. My records are there. That is not to say those who have represented our people since I left have not done well. I know that I am capable. I have the needed experience,” he added.
