The foremost socio-cultural organisation in Ibadanland, Ibadan Progressive Union, IPU, has commiserated with the government of Oyo State Members of Olubadan in Council, indigenes and residents of Ibadan and on the passage to glory of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji in the early hours of Sunday the 2 of January, 2022
In a statement by Engr. Yinka Alli and Chief Kunle Ogunsola, chairman and publicity secretary respectively, “Our late monarch, a staunch member of our great union, IPU will be remembered for his native intelligence, patience maturity and passion for development of Ibadanland and Oyo State by extension, especially in the area of commerce, which confirmed his traditional appellation of Aje Ogungunniso.
“His Imperial Majesty will always be remembered how he stood his ground, based on principles against the multiplication of Obaship and Crowns amongst the members of Olubadan in Council, insisting that Ibadan traditional institution recognizes only the Olubadan as the crowned king and paramount ruler of Ibadanland. His Imperial Majesty affirmed that this is the position that he inherited as a custodian ibadan avowed culture and tradition and he defended as a gallant warrior till he joined his ancestors. Olubadan Akanmu Adetunji, a man of peace and candor achieven this without any violent opposition to the Government of the day and the members of The Olubadan in Council.
The Ibadan Progressive Union prays that Almighty God grant His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 an eternal rest as he joins his ancestors. We also pray that the entire sons and daughters of Ibadanland and Oyo state in general be granted the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The IPU wishes the Olubadan traditional council God’s guidance in choosing the next Olubadan who will leverage on the achievements of the late monarch for the progress of the ancient town, the Ibadanland.
