The Ibadan Descendants Union, USA, the umbrella body of all sons and daughters of Ibadan origin in North America has conducted graduation ceremony for some Ibadan youths.
IDU, USA organised a six-month training on various vocations such as tailoring, shoemaking and graphic designs. The youths were trained by selected instructors in the crafts stated.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony held recently, the Ajia Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, who is also the National President of IDU, USA, charged the graduands to make good use of the trainings they have received in the last six months. He stated that the reason the socio-cultural organization organised the vocational training for Ibadan youths was to arrest youth restiveness and empower them to be busy and be able to earn good living. Oloye Abiola Iyiola reiterated that the success of this pilot training program for Ibadan youths would ensure the continuation of the program as he disclosed that efforts were in place to set the graduands up with relevant equipments needed to start up their vocations.
While advising the graduands, Pastor Sola Onifade, who is the chairman of the New York Chapter of Ibadan Descendants’ Union, admonished them not to allow the trainings they have received to go to waste. He appealed to them to be exemplary youths that other Ibadan youths could emulate.
The major highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of certificates of completion to the graduands by some notable members of IDU, USA, present and the instructors. Also, the graduands showcased the products they produced after their trainings to the applause of the guests present.
Present at the graduation ceremony were Olóyè Abiola Iyiola, National President, IDU, USA; Mogaji Olawale Olalere, Pastor Sola Onifade, Princess Seyi Oyewale-Ajayi and Alhaja Hadrat Azeez. Others were a former Chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government, Honourable Abiodun Adedoja Ekolo, and Chief Olaide Adewuyi.
