After a report published by The ICIR that revealed how a staff of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Mr. Adebayo Akande, demanded sex from an old student of the institution before issuing her an IT letter, the management of the school have expressed its readiness to take up the matter and investigate it.
The management stated this through its Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, who contacted The ICIR to verify the report and indicate the interest of the management to not allow the matter go without being probed.
Adewole stated that the School’s Registrar is ready to meet the girl and that her secrecy is guaranteed.
In his words, he said, “she also needs to come to us so that at the end of the day we can deal with the person. We are going to handle that (the case) in utmost secrecy and confidentiality,”
In a telephone conversation that lasted for over five minutes, he added, “…. I don’t know that girl but my children are likely to be older than her. So if I cannot protect such a child then I should go to hell. If I cannot protect such a girl or any student for that matter, then, I have no business remaining here,”
He stated further that, “the school Registrar was deeply disturbed when she heard because I forwarded your message to her. She is very angry.”
“Yes, she wants to take up the matter. We want to see the girl and see how we can get more evidence from her. That guy will not remain in service.”
The sexual allegation started on the 3rd of March when an old student of the school under the pseudo-Laide Johnson visited the IT/SIWES office in the school to collect the letter required toundergo a one-year Industrial Attachment (IT) beforeproceeding for Higher National Diploma (HND) only for the staff she met Mr. Adebayo Akande to demand for sex from her before issuing it.
