Afraid of the outcome and aftermath of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries to choose who fly the party’s flag in August 16, 2025 bye-election in Ibadan North, ‘Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State last night handpicked his deputy chief of staff, Folajimi Oyekunle.
Don as Oyekunle, whose returned ticket was snatched for the current member representing Ibadan North constituency 1 in the 2023 election, is fondly called was handpicked ahead of 6 others.
The seat became vacant following the death of Musiliudeen Akinremi Olaide last year. Jagaban as the deceased All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmaker was fondly called, was in his second term when he died on July 10, 2024.
To pacify other contestants, which included Lanre Sarumi who lost the 2023 election to Jagaban, Makinde was said to have promised them strategic appointments in his less-than-two-years-to-exit administration.
