Ibadan Indigenes In US To Collaborate With Makinde On Economic, Academic Development

The Ibadan indigenes living in United States of America (USA) under the auspices of Ibadan Descendants Union USA (IDU USA) have pledged their support for Oyo state governor-elect, Engineer Seyi Makinde in the area of academic and economic development for the betterment of Ibadan people and Oyo state in general.

This was contained in a congratulatory letter handed over to Oyo governor-elect at his Houston’s residence last Tuesday by Dr Fatai Oyejobi, IDU President, Houston chapter on behalf of the IDU National President, Dr (Mrs) Olubunmi Afonja.

Those who accompanied the President IDU Houston chapter, Dr Fatai Oyejobi on courtesy visit to Oyo governor-elect includes IDU’s National Publicity Secretary, Mrs Adebukola Oyejobi, Dr. Abiodun Raufu and other members.

According to the letter, “Dear Governor (Elect) Makinde, Congratulations on your election as our new State Governor. The National Executive Council and members of Ibadan Descendants’ Union USA (IDU USA), wish you success in your new responsibilities.

“Ibadan Descendants’ Union USA (IDU USA) also congratulates President Mohammadu Buhari on his re-election as the President of our noble country. We are proud of the success witnessed in the recent electoral process, which has been viewed as one of the most peaceful and fair elections in recent years.

“We pray that the recently completed elections will be the forerunner of the future of the political process in Nigeria.

“Ibadan Descendants’ Union USA Incorporated (IDU USA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established by sons and daughters of Ibadan residing in the USA.

“Our mission is to support and promote academic and economic growth of Ibadan. In addition, the organization is fully committed to educate and promote our cultural awareness in the Diaspora.

“Since its inception on the 12th of April 2003, the organization has embarked on several projects to benefit people in Ibadan.

“These have included renovation of maternity ward and installation of bore hole in Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, donation of medical equipment to a city hospital and Oyo State government, and provision of educational materials (textbooks, notebooks, etc.) to students (elementary through high schools, vocational schools and colleges).

“As an organization, one of our goals is to implement strategic programmes that will foster academic and economic growth.
