A former speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mikhail Alarape, has congratulated the illegally sacked local government chairmen and council officials from the All Progressives Congress over their victory at the supreme court.

Alarape, a prominent grassroot politician, in a statement made available to OYOINSIGHT on Tuesday morning recalled how he warned Governor Seyi Makinde against his unconstitutional action.

“Today’s Supreme Court judgement on the purported local government dissolution by a mere terse statement from High Chief Bisi Ilaka acting on behalf of the Governor of Oyo state immediately he was sworn in 2019 is a rape on participatory Democracy.

“It is on record that I rose against the dissolution immediately it was known to the public. It is saddening , devastating, disgusting and analogous to the spirit of election and Democracy.I think it is apposite for our Courts to widen their Jurisprudence scope to fairness, equity and natural justice.

“Equating electoral mandate to Naira and kobo is sickening and destructive of commonwealth. The Court should be seen to be dynamic and real agent of positive change. Is the Governor/ Oyo State Government paying from their personal purse? How does this serve as deterrent to Executive rascality in the future.

“All said and done, the general populace are the losers. The hope of participatory cum representative Democracy is an illusion, aberration and perversity.
It is right time we have statemen as Political leaders.
Head or tail the Present Government in the state would soon impose their cronies in the name of election.
Development and growth are sacrifice for Political Parties affiliation at expense of Real Participatory Democracy. It is a National shame, disaster and must be stopped,” he noted.
