The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan has revealed that he did not request that the mobile police squadron in the state should be moved or located at Igboho, his hometown.

Olaniyan who, OYOINSIGHT.COM understands, may not want to pitched against his Okeogun kinsmen, made the statement in reaction to a claim by the Special Adviser on Stategic and Political Affairs to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Babatunde Oduyoye.

Oduyoye had while speaking on Fresh FM Political Circuit program on Saturday morning stated that the decision to locate the squadron at Okeogun was, among other things, based on the demand by Political office holders from the region.

However, in a swift reaction, the Deputy Governor in a message he sent to the anchor of the program, Mayor Isaac Brown, stated that he was not one of the political office holders from Okeogun who requested that the Squadron should be located in Okeogun.

OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt that Olaniyan had advised the Makinde to locate it within Agunrege and Ago-Are when it was finally slated for Okeogun.

In reaction to this, Makinde’s political Adviser, Oduyoye, countered the Deputy Governor’s message again saying, ” It was not to be sited in Igboho, he had inputs. His domain covers the whole of Okeogun; he is the Deputy Governor and he is the highest-ranking political officer of the Peoples Democratic Party from Okeogun.

“He never at any point said he wanted a Squadron at Igboho but he made recommendation of a central location.”

Speaking on the relationship between the Governor and the Deputy Governor, Oduyoye stated that there is a problem in the state.

The problem, according to him, is that there is a deliberate gang-up to ensure that the current administration does not succeed.

He cited an example of a statement credited to a Senator in the state that Governor Makinde should have allowed his Deputy take over the helm of affairs when he tested positive for COVID-19 even though this same individual did not criticize President Muhammadu Buhari for delegating the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, to lead the fight against COVID-19.

He added, “Governor Seyi Makinde, at not point, initiate any move to remove the Deputy Governor. A father and his son; husband and wife can have issues but there is nothing that has denigrated to that level.”
