Bayo Adewusi, postmaster general of the federation and chief executive officer of the Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST, has said that the agency as been involved in the provision of financial services in order to advance financial inclusion in the marginalised areas.
With this, the Oyo State All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain who spoke at the opening of the ongoing board/management retreat which commenced yesterday at Ilaji Resorts, Oloyo Village, Akanran, Ibadan, Adewusi, said that NIPOST has been able to integrate rural dwellers into financial inclusion and the National Cash Transfer programmes of the Federal government.
The retreat, which according to Adewusi will outline the future direction of our the agency, is the second in the series since NIPOST began the reinvention a few years back.
To drive the implementation of the finance act 2020 in the area of stamp authentication, the Eruwa-born former Lagos commissioner, disclosed that the department of stamp authentication compliance was created, adding that “it is my hope that we would all work assiduously in our various jurisdictions to ensure that revenue from this area is well harnessed for the betterment of the organization and the country in general.
He commended NIPOST governing board led by Barrister Maimuna Yaya Abubakar, for the cordiality, cooperation and support.
This was just as he appreciated Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, communications and digital economy minister, “whose doggedness and forthrightness has ensured that our organization was not unjustly treated in the battle on adhesive postage stamps, that saw some forces hell-bent on emasculating NIPOST and its statutory role of producing stamps for the use to denote documents.
“With the rapid changes and development in the ecosystem we are operating, coupled with recent devasting effect of pandemic Covid 19, it became more compelling for us to converge and assess our operation and challenges. This inform the convening of this Retreat now.
However, let us at this juncture remind ourselves that the effective implementation of strategies require the dedication and commitment of all of us. This Strategy Retreat therefore provides an opportunity for participants to discuss and brainstorm on emerging challenges arising from the dynamic environment we are operating.
Globally, Postal administrations including NIPOST offers logistic services. It is a solution for customers requiring better merchandise delivery service within the countries even outside, using physical postal service infrastructure and resources.”
Speaking further, he said that “full digitalisation of our operations is key to the quality of services. Automation would check leakages of revenue aside from enhancing our operations. We are in the process full automation of all our Post offices; this is very important.
“The new normal has changed the perspective of conducting businesses. NIPOST has formed partnership and collaboration with organizations and government agencies in areas like e- government services for NIPOST to make the Post office a one – stop shop to meet the aspirations of our customers.
