A former Chairman of the Association of Local Government Officials, ALGON, Hon. Yekeen Popoola has commiserated with the people of Oyo state over the death of the immediate past governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi.
OYOINSIGHT.COM reports that Ajimobi died on Thursday after a brief illness in Lagos.
In a statement he signed himself made available to newsmen, Hon. Yekeen described the late governor as an irreplaceable one.
He stated further that Ajimobi was one of the greatest men of the earth who used his intellect to raise the bar of governance in Oyo State.
He also stated that since the death of the two-time governor, the positive impact he had on people during his lifetime had begun to spring up noting that Ajimobis passion for hard work made him a great leader with the unrivalled ability to attract sustainable development, and an unprecedented courage to make a stand irrespective of the level of criticism from the public.
At some point, I said to myself, had it been that all this great attributes were said while he (Ajimobi) was on the sick bed, I want to believe that he would have lived longer than he even imagined because if he could look back at those tributes, condolence messages from home and abroad on who he was and what he did, he would have been surprised to see that the people of the state are grateful for the level of positive impacts he made throughout the eight years he spent as the governor, Poopola said.
Speaking on how he met the former Governor, he said, I met him at a time when the progressive fold in the state was scattered, hopeless and politically presumed to be relegated, In fact many of the ideologies of progressive politics as at that time were already tilting toward extinction but his coming to politics in the state gave birth to a renewal of the virtually oblivion progressive elements.
He breathed a new life into the fold and from there the progressive family became stronger while already established progressive men and women had a sigh of relief and at the same time because he ensured the creation of a crop of new set of progressive leaders and also facilitated the conversion of many core conservative into the progressive family.”
He will continue to live in my heart as legends live forever because he was the one who brought me into the limelight of politics of Oyo state, Poopola added.
