The departure of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111 has been described as synonymous to the exit of an institution of paramount importance.

This parallel was drawn by a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo central, Dr. Yunus Akintunde Sunday morning.

Recall that OYOINSIGHT.COM had reported that the Alaafin joined his ancestors on Saturday at the age of 83.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Akintunde, who was commissioner for works and transport, noted that the Alaafin’s death is shocking.

This was just as he said his 60th birthday celebration last month was one of the last events the monarch attended before joining his ancestors.

“In terms of his wealth of knowledge and intellectual depth, Alaafin Adeyemi represented an institution and for several decades, this institution was used in the overall interest of the Yoruba people.

“His transition marks the end of this remarkable period in the history of the Yorhbas,” he explained

The Oyo-born politician noted that the people of Oyo town and Yoruba land must however take solace in the level of impact that he had, adding that the “Alaafin lived a celebrated life.”
