A socio-political group in Oyo State, the Oyo Kajola Group, on Monday, warned the outgoing government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi not to derail the ship of the state with last minute projects and withdrawals, “which are capable of unsettling the incoming government.”
The group, in a statement signed by its media coordinator, Taiwo Ogunlade, maintained that the award of multi-billion naira contracts less than two months to the end of government was puerile and bad-intentioned, warning Senator Ajimobi not to rubbish his achievements in the last eight years with “a last minute determination to create problems for the opposition party that is taking over the reins of power.”
The group upbraided the outgoing government for creating unnecessary challenges and awarding contracts it obviously would not last in office to see through, describing the action as “a somewhat maniacal enthusiasm to give the governor-elect a great challenge in governing the state and the true reflection of Ajimobi’s statement that it would be a great challenge for Makinde to match his achievements.
“Though it is commonplace in Nigeria’s body-politic for outgoing governors to forgo statesmanship for petty, puerile politics by creating problems for an incoming government, we hope Governor Ajimobi has not begun to renege on his readiness to place the interest of the state above party affiliations as expressed during Makinde’s visit to him. It will be disgraceful for the outgoing government to continue piling responsibilities it will not last long to see through in the name of discharging its duties to the people till May 29,” the group stated.
