The inauguration and swearing-in ceremony, which took at the Western Hall of Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, was hosted by the State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Speaking at the event, the guest speaker, Prince Adetayo Adekunle, urged the newly inaugurated leaders to put the student populace they represent first always.

He also advised members of the executive council not to limit their clamour for sponsorship to political office holders only.

“Let me advise you to utilise this opportunity judiciously because, as you are aware, the youth and student movement are regarded as one of Nigeria’s leadership recruitment systems.

“It has produced some of our founding fathers like Awolowo, Azikwe and more recently, Amaechi and others.”

He added that the union’s new leadership must not lower the bar set by their predecessors.

Earlier at the event, a former lawmaker representing Oyo Central senatorial district, Monsurat Sunmonu, urged members of the association to engage in politics without bitterness.

Sunmonu, also a former speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, recalled the central role she played during the LAUTECH crisis during the last administration.

Meanwhile, the new President of the union, Alarape Ibrahim, has promised that his administration would fulfil the promises made during the campaign.

The inauguration event had in attendance representatives of the state government, state scholarship board and various stakeholders.
