Solomon Soyebi, a former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner, will be buried today in Abeokuta.
He was a younger friend of Olusegun Obadsanjo, former Nigeria president. Like Obasanjo, he attended Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
A family source said Soyebi, 66, who also attended the University of Ibadan, died on July 15, 2021 after a brief illness. He joined INED in 2003 and served as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos, Abia, Akwa Ibom and some other states in the country.
He was among the five INEC commissioners that President Muhammadu Buhari did not reappoint in 2020, having served two terms of five years each.
The family source said that on Thursday, a wake was held in Soyebi honour at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library event hall in Abeokuta, while he will be buried today at Owu Baptist Church cemetery in Abeokuta.
