Following the 48 hour ultimatum issued by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, on Monday, mandating the Ooni of Ife to withdraw the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yoruba land bestowed on Dotun Sanusi, there has been a contentious debate has emerged over this development.
However, checks by OYOINSIGHT.COM has revealed that the Ooni already designated Sanusi as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland five years ago during the reign of the late Alaafin Adeyemi III, and the installation ceremony was only put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This designation occurred when the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, attended a birthday reception organized for Sanusi who paid him a courtesy visit.
Oba Ogunwusi in his welcome address during the visit described Sanusi as someone who shares several qualities with him beside being birthday mates, adding that considering the activities of Sanusi towards community and humanitarian development in Oyo State, the Mogaji of Olugbade family would be installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland as soon as the pandemic was over.
Sanusi after the exchange of gifts between himself and the monarch left Ile-Ife for Ibadan where dignitaries were already patiently waiting for him that day.
