Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, have described the alleged plot to dethrone the monarch as unfounded and baseless.

In separate reactions through their media aides on Sunday, they denied the allegation and criticised former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, over the claim.

Fayose had, in a post on his X handle, alleged that Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja as Olubadan. He also claimed that the monarch would be queried for failing to attend the elevation ceremony of High Chief Sharafadeen Ali to the status of Oba in Ibadan last week.

Reacting, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the government had neither contemplated nor discussed such a move.

“By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter.

“The Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better consigned to the refuse dump where it belongs.

“Desperate politics breeds thoughtless propaganda and reduces democracy to a joke,” he said.

Similarly, the media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, described Fayose’s claim as a baseless rumour, noting that there is no rift between the governor and the monarch to justify such speculation.

“It would be most unfortunate if this is anything beyond a rumour. I see no cause for friction between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland,” he said
