Renowned gospel musician, Dr Yinka Ayefele and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, the Chairman, National Lottery Commission have pledged to support the repositioning of Oyo NUJ Council.
The duo made the pledge on Sunday during their separate visits to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council press centre, Iyaganku in Ibadan.
The duo were received by members of the state executive council led by the Chairman, Mr Ademola Babalola.
Babalola, the new Chairman of the council is a Correspondent of Fresh FM Abeokuta, one of the radio stations founded by Ayefele.
It would be recalled that Ayefele had immediately after the emergence of the new executives, pledged free health insurance for all journalists in the state and a brand new car for the chairman’s office.
Ayefele, who is also the Chairman, Fresh FM Radio Station, pledged to support the Babalola administration in giving the press centre the desired facelift.
“I am here to see the state of things at the press centre and see where I can be of help. From what I have seen, this place truly need huge support to actualise the desired facelift.
“Also, journalists in the state deserve better welfare packages to enhance their work. We are going to support Babalola-led administration in realising the enormous agenda before him.
“I am not rich to do all alone. We are going to explore all avenues including our friends, government and other corporate institutions to achieve all,” he said.
He said that journalists have played major roles in nation building and deserved the support of all, urging the Babalola-led executives to also explore all available legitimate means.
Ayefele said that the health insurance fee of all the journalists in the state would be paid during the week and the brand new car handed over to the chairman on Jan. 26.
Ibikunle, a Personal Assistant to late former Gov. Lam Adesina and APC Chieftain, said that journalists in the state deserved their support as major stakeholders in the building of greater Oyo State and Nigeria.
The renowned politician recalled the role of the media in the enthronement and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria, pledging to facilitate developmental projects to the council.
He lauded Babalola for being a consistent and thoroughbred professional who had.distinguished himself as a seasoned journalist with knack for excellence and development of the pen profession.
Ibikunle therefore pledged to erect a project in the centre and facilitate support from friends as well as other well meaning Nigerians to support Babalola.
Ibikunle, however, urged journalists in the state to adhere strictly to ethical standard, warning them against spread of fake news.
