Oyo State is set to host the largest auto sporting in the country in a 3 day event scheduled to take place in December later this year.
This was announced by the organisers, Fanfaro Oil, at a press conference in Ibadan on Thursday morning.
In a memo made available to newsmen at the conference, the organizers announced that the decision to hold the contest in Oyo State is because the state is “generally perceived as a late adopter of trends. Despite her land mass (ranking as the largest city in west Africa) and high population, hardly is there an activity that brings visitors into the state, as is the case with the Calabar Festival in Cross Rivers or events in Lagos.”
They explained that even though the FanfaroAutofest 2019 was able to evoke an evolution that placed the state on the global map, this year’s edition is not only focused on presenting the state to the world but also to showcase the culture, beautiful locations, talents and business enabling environment within the state.
Reacting to questions from newsmen regarding the level of security in place for the event, a member of the Fanfaro Autofest team said: “The security is going to be more than 100 percent. We don’t want any casualty. We did not have any last year.
“We are having drums filled with sand so that in case of any casualty which we don’t expect there will be no problem.”
Reacting to questions about why the organization is investing in a sporting contest when there are lot of poor people in the society, a member of the Autofest team explained that there is no single effort that can change world.
“Before now that has been several CSR to help the people.
” There are countries that rely on tourism alone. There are lots of hotels that don’t have customers but when you bring all these people to Ibadan that will change.
“It might even attract investors. We are not politicians. Last year, we tried getting the support of the government but they had a lot on their hands.”
The 3-day event will kick-off with a dinner & awards day. The second day will feature an auto convoy drive around the city to familiarize guests with the area. While the third day being the grand event, will host renowned drifters, Superbikers, celebrity performances and personalities from different parts of the country.
The organizer of the sporting contest, Fanfaro is into the production and distribution of lubricants around the world. The lead partner is Basco. Nig. Ltd.
