Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was assassinated on June 20, 2003 in his Ibadan residents.
Speaking with The Nation in Ibadan during a prayer organised to mark the 18 years remembrance of the deceased, Chief Moyo Adewuyi lamented that Olanipekun’s life was cut short in his prime during the time he was making progress in his law practice.
Adewuyi, who was a family friend to the deceased, stated that till now, no one knew the reason for Olanipekun’s assassination. He described the late SAN as a straight-forward person, who never engaged in shady business with anybody while alive.
He said: “Olanipekun faced his legal practice after he was removed as commissioner by Kolapo Ishola and was making progress. He became SAN after he left office as the commissioner.”
Adewuyi said: “His killers got him 100 days after he was first attacked by unknown assassins.”
Son of the deceased, Jubril Olanipekun, who spoke on behalf of the family, said his late dad was an accomplished man who stands out among his peer.
He added that the family is upholding the legacy his father left behind.
