Recall that the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had earlier announced that it will release timetable and guidelines for local government election by January, 2021.

The governor premised his decision to extend the tenure of the council chairmen on move to prevent vacuum in the local government administration between the time the timetable will be released and actual election.

Sunrisebulletin.com gathered that the current tenure of caretaker chairmen in all 33 and 35 local governments and LCDAs officially terminates on 19th December, 2020.

The Speaker, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, in his brief remark said that the house will liaise with the house committee on local and chieftaincy matters before it will decide on considering approval of the governor’s request.

Ogundoyin however stressed that since a vacuum can not be allowed in local government administration, the house will consider the request for tenure extension on Friday 18th December, 2020.
