Fearing that more the defection of his former security adviser, Fatai Owoseni, may embolden more disgruntled members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to decamp, ‘Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State, has scheduled an emergency meeting for today.
Owoseni, an Ibadan-born retired commissioner of police in Lagos, had days after the governor adopted his kinsman, a former finance commissioner, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as preferred successor, resigned his membership of the PDP and joined Accord. Few hours after, he obtained the party’s governorship nomination form.
The development, those close to the governor told OYOINSIGHT.COM, caught him unaware. He was said to be holed as he did not expect it.
In the list which emanated from the governor’s late night meeting with those he called stakeholders, PDP members who are from the late Lamidi Adedibu/Taofeek Arapaja lost others. A former first lady, Mutiat Ladoja is displeased with the turn of events. A party elder, Nureni Akanbi is said to be unhappy. Debo Akande, a known ally of Makinde who leads Oyo State Agricultural Development Agency, OYSADA, is licking his wounds quietly. They are already talking to one another on the next way forward. They have, however, said they are not going to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, with the governor, the source said.
”Not only these people alone, the speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, lost out. He was not even considered for a return. Many people are silently angry and are already planning way forward for themselves. You will see that most of the people who are not supportive of the happenings within the governor’s circle were excluded from last week’s dinner, organised to introduce Adekanmbi and his would-be running mate, Muftau Open Salawu.
OYOINSIGHT.COM learnt that the meeting will have in attendance governorship aspirants on the platform of the PDP as well as other notable stakeholders.
Top of the agenda is explanation of how he got to support Adekanmbi, out of his many loyalists. He is expected to set up a reconciliation committee at the meeting. “Already, he has succeeded in blackmailing Saheed Akinade-Fijabi to rescind his decision of rejecting the house of representatives’ ticket,” said a government appointee.
