Basking in the euphoria of the Supreme Court verdict which invalidated their dissolution as elected officials of the third tier of government as delivered on Friday, members of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) and the Oyo State All Progressives Congress, APC and the victorious chairmen are now poised to approach the court again tosecure injunction against the conduct of the May 22, 2021, local government election.

Sources who spoke with OYOINSIGHT.COM said that going ahead with the council polls would amount to denying APC members the opportunity of participating.

According to one of the sources, “Our people did not participate because they were expecting the Supreme Court judgement and going before the Isiaka Olagunju-led OYSIEC with a view participating in the proposed LG poll would have amounted to aiding and abetting illegality.

Though our people were denied opportunity of returning to their council areas to complete their tenure, APC should be given time to register and take part in the election of the OYSIEC and the PDP government wish to have a credible and acceptable exercise.

“On our part, we had wished for the court pronouncement to allow for the reinstated officials to complete their tenure of office by asking the state governor to stay action on any poll conduct or appointment of caretaker committees for the local government councils until after the next two years but unfortunately, this didn’t happen.

“Therefore, the next for us is to mobilize our people and approach a competent court of law to grant our desire because our confidence in the Judiciary as the last hope of common man remains strong. We will do everything legally possible to resist the conduct of any kangaroo election in our resolve to ensure that democracy at the third tier of government level is safeguarded.” The source added.
