If former governor and governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, agrees to work for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in next week’s election, he has some juicy packages to get in return.
Recall that OYO INSIGHT reported how Alao-Akala was flown to Abuja via vice-president Yemi Osinbajo’s private helicopter.
The Ogbomoso-born politician, who defected from the APC, to the ADP, at a meeting with the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was begged to support the candidacy of Oloye Adebayo Adelabu.
Only last week, Alao-Akala had convened a meeting of opposition governorship candidates from Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, African Democratic Congress, ADC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
They had resolved to back the party who perform well in last week’s National Assembly election in the state.
While PDP won a senatorial seat and three House of Representatives’ seats, with one declared inconclusive, ADP won a Reps seat. The ruling APC won 9 Reps and 2 senatorial seats while ZLP and ADC were left with nothing.
Many were expecting Alao-Akala to reconvene the meeting on Tuesday only to be flown to Abuja that same day. This was after the leadership of the APC had sensed danger; that if it doesn’t strike an alliance with Alao-Akala, it may be tough for its candidate to emerge governor. However, Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who lost his senatorial election to little-known Dr Kola Balogun, was not involved in the negotiation.
Though Alao-Akala has not agreed to what he was promised, OYO INSIGHT learnt that he was promised the position of secretary to the state government alongside two commissionership slots. This is just as they promised to return his son, Olamiju, who was removed as chairman of Ogbomoso North local government for defecting to ADP.
Alao-Akala had defected to the ADP owing to his inability to secure the APC governorship ticket.
Efforts to speak with any of Alao-Akala’s aides proved abortive as they were said to be locked in a meeting currently at his Awosika, Bodija residence.
