Former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala may lead former senate leader Teslim Folarin, former House of Representatives’ member, Mudasiru Kameel Akinlabi and other notable supporters out of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, OYO INSIGHT has learnt.
This newspaper had reported how the duo of Folarin and Kameel were spotted at Alao-Akala’s Bodija, Ibadan residence on Saturday.
Both Folarin and Kameel represented Oyo Central and Oyo federal constiuency respectively twice.
Only yesterday, OYO INSIGHT reported how Alao-Akala, who has obtained nomination form to contest the 2019 governorship primaries of APC, skipped the portion for aspirants and signed as a party leader when the peace agreement was brought before him. Sources told this newspaper that he is not okay with the agreement to prune down the number of aspirants to three. “He knows Ajimobi will not consider him.”
It was gathered that Alao-Akala and Folarin were not comfortable working Ajimobi any longer as the governor has ‘breached’ the agreement they had in the United Kingdom.
Folarin and Kameel on the other hand are also in dilemma. Their bids to return to upper and lower legislative chambers respectively are not feasible.
It was further learnt that Folarin visited Alao-Akala after his visit to the Abeokuta home of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
This, political analysts say, will brighten the hope of Alao-Akala working with his former boss, Rashidi Ladoja, for the first time in 11 years. Both had fell out following the impeachment of Ladoja in 2006.
At the Abeokuta’s meeting, it was said that Obasanjo favoured the idea of supporting a young governorship aspirant while Ladoja, Alao-Akala and one other person run for senatorial race.
Alao-Akala has, however, denied meeting with Obasanjo, saying that “I was in Ibadan on Friday. I didn’t leave this house on Friday. I am in APC to contest the 2019 governorship election.
As at the time of filing this report, calls to the phone lines of both Folarin and Kameel were not taken.
