Alhaji Wasiu Abubakre, a former chairman of the Oyo State council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, is dead.
Tawakalitu, as he was fondly called, was the NURTW boss during the administration of former governor Rashidi Ladoja. He succeeded Alhaji Lateef Akinsola Tokyo.
Though details of his death were sketchy as at press time, OYO INSIGHT learnt that he would be buried around 11 am today in accordance with Islamic rites.
One of his sons, Quadri, confirmed the story wrote on his Facebook
He was said to have died at exactly 5:35 at Patnas Hospital, opposite the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, Basorun, Ibadan, where he had been before yesterday.
“He recently returned to the country from an American hospital where he had gone for medicals. He was unable to observe the just concluded Ramadhan due to ill-health.”
Speaking later with OYO INSIGHT, Quadri said his father’s remains would leave the hospital at 8:30 for countryhome in Iwo, Osun State where he would be buried.
Tawa, this medium recalled, resigned his appointment as Oyo NURTW chairman second day after Ladoja was illegally impeached as Governor in January, 2006.
