Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has reached out to the father of Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham, as Nigerian and English football officials battle to win over the Blues’ youngster.
Abraham was born in central London to Nigerian parents and is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria.
His latest comments of not ruling out the possibility of playing for Nigeria appears to have reopened the door for a switch to Nigeria.
The 21-year-old striker, joint-top scorer in the English Premier League with seven goals, has been heavily linked with a recall to the England squad next month.
“Last night I spoke with Mr Abraham, the father of soccer sensation Tammy Abraham in London,” Dare tweeted.
“I shared my excitement about his son’s exploits on the field with him. He was happy and thankful for reaching out.”
Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi (both Nigeria) have all shunned England eligibility to play for the countries of their birth after playing for England’s youth teams.
