The Concerned Stakeholders for Good Governance in Oyo State have alleged that doctors are leaving government-owned hospitals in the state.

This exit, the group explained in a recent statement signed by its leadership, is driven by the dwindling rate of revenue generation in these hospitals.

The statement read: “Serious concerns have been raised over the sharp drop in revenue collection across government hospitals in Oyo State. The development, if not urgently addressed, poses a major threat to hospital operations and the well-being of patients who rely on these facilities for essential healthcare.

“Reports indicate that the situation affects all state-owned hospitals, including Jericho Specialist Hospital, Yemetu Hospital, and Adeoyo Hospital in Ibadan, as well as facilities in Ogbomoso, Oke Ogun, and Ibarapa. These hospitals are reportedly struggling to meet financial and operational targets under the current system.

“In July 2025, ICT personnel were deployed by the Oyo State Hospital Management Board to oversee revenue collection on behalf of the state government. However, by the end of August, the amount remitted into the government’s account had dropped drastically compared to previous months.

“It has been observed that the ICT operators deducted a significant percentage of the funds as “processing fees.” In some cases, individual POS machines were reportedly used to collect hospital revenue, with proceeds paid into a Globus Bank account allegedly belonging to the Hospital Management Board. This account, however, is not known to or authorized by the Office of the Accountant General.

“For example, one major hospital in the state, which had previously generated an average of ₦14 million monthly, suddenly recorded ₦9 million in August. Out of this amount, only ₦6 million was remitted into the official government revenue account. This unexplained shortfall raises serious questions of transparency and accountability.

”The consequences are already evident. Doctors and health workers are said to be demoralized, and many doctors are now leaving the system. If urgent steps are not taken, Oyo State hospitals may be left without adequate medical personnel, thereby endangering the lives of citizens who depend on them.

“There are also claims in some quarters that the ICT operations belong to one of the associates of the present government, a development that underscores the urgent need for the Accountant General to carry out a full-scale investigation into the matter.

“We therefore call on the Office of the Accountant General to urgently launch a transparent, fact-finding investigation into the revenue collection process in Oyo State hospitals. This will not only safeguard government finances but also protect the health and welfare of the people of Oyo State.”
