APM Eyes Aggrieved Oyo APC Reps Aspirants As Coalition Reaffirms Loyalty to Tinubu
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has allegedly begun reaching out to aggrieved All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirants in Oyo State following discontent over the process that produced the party’s candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The alleged overtures come amid growing dissatisfaction among aspirants who faulted the emergence of candidates through what they described as a “unity list,” arguing that the process denied them the opportunity to participate in transparent and competitive primaries.
However, the Coalition of Concerned APC House of Representatives Aspirants has reportedly reaffirmed its loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the Oyo State APC leadership, insisting that its grievances should not be interpreted as a plan to defect to another party.
The coalition had, in a communiqué issued after consultations among its members and other stakeholders, called on the APC national leadership to review the candidate-selection process and establish a credible reconciliation mechanism to address their concerns.
A representative of the coalition, speaking at a scheduled meeting, reportedly expressed confidence that the party leadership would listen to the aspirants and resolve the dispute in the interest of fairness and unity.
The representative also reportedly warned against allowing the disagreement to create an opening for opposition parties to exploit divisions within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The aggrieved aspirants maintained that their grassroots structures, personal investments in party activities, community engagements and voter mobilisation efforts remained valuable to the APC’s electoral prospects in Oyo State.
They urged the party leadership to recognise their contributions and integrate them meaningfully into its electoral strategy, while calling for an impartial review of the selection process and a high-level reconciliation committee comprising respected party leaders acceptable to the affected stakeholders.
The coalition also appealed to its supporters across the state to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while the party considers the issues raised.
An APM stalwart in Oyo State confirmed the alleged overtures, describing them as a normal part of political engagement in which parties seek to attract aggrieved members from rival parties.
Attempts to obtain further comments from the coalition’s representative were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The development places renewed focus on how the APC leadership will manage the grievances of the affected aspirants, whose political structures and grassroots networks could remain important factors in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
