In what looks like distancing himself from Governor Seyi Makinde’s statement that they are together in support Amb. Umar Ilya Damagum-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor Ademola Adeleke has said he stand with the party.
OYOINSIGHT.COM understands that Makinde’s Bauchi counterpart, Bala Mohammed who doubles as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, had, last Tuesday, hinted the leadership of the party had resolved to replace Damagum with someone from the North Central.
Makinde had yesterday at the flag-off of the Ladoke Akintola airport, declared that he and Adeleke were solidly behind Damagum.
Few hours after, Adeleke has come out to distance himself from Makinde, saying that he stood by the party.
In a statement from Osogbo, the Osun state capital, a copy of which was received by this newspaper, Adeleke clarified his position on the raging leadership crisis rocking the PDP, declaring that he stands by the relevant provisions of the PDP Constitution.
“I stand by the Constitution of our great party which clearly spelt out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman.
“I also stand by the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum of which I am an integral part.
“Our party must adhere to its Constitution at this critical time and at all times. That is the way to build a responsible political party,” Olawale Rasheed who signed the statement quoted Adeleke as saying.
