In a bid to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the residents of Oyo State, The Owolabi Olakulehin Foundation has distributed food items worth millions of naira to the people of the state.
The founder of the foundation, Barrister Owolabi Olakulehin, who is a former Commissioner for Water Resources in Oyo State, said that the decision to distribute the palliatives to people is based on the discovery that there is hunger in the land due to the negative effect of the lockdown on the economy.
He said: “We have been distributing foodstuffs and provisions on a daily basis since two weeks ago, however, we thought that the partial lockdown would have been over so we picked today for the distribution of the palliatives not knowing that the lockdown will still be effective.”
“My wife has been helping people, particularly the poor, in the society and I also love helping people, which means that I share the same belief with her. So, we started this foundation sometimes ago with the aim to put a smile on the faces of the people.”
Olakulehin, who is also a former chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government, stressed further that his decision to distribute the palliatives was not politically motivated because he does not even have any political agenda at the moment.
Some beneficiaries of the program who spoke with newsmen commended the efforts of the foundation and lauded the founder, Barr. Owolabi Olakulehin, for his philanthropy efforts.
Food Items distributed to people include rice, beans, semovita, spaghetti, noodles, beverages, among others.
Some individuals also received Cash support from the foundation.
