The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District at the red chambers of the National Assembly, Teslim Folarin, has urged the government to forcefully lockdown Ibadan, the capital of the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Folarin, a third-term member of the Senate, disclosed this in a statement in the early hours of Tuesday following the announcement that Governor Seyi Makinde has tested positive for a virus that has killed thousands globally.
“With increasing numbers of our people testing positive for Covid-19, It is my considered opinion that some very draconian stepsshould be taken in Oyo State immediately by the State Government.
“It is of utmost importance that Ibadan is locked downFORCEFULLY with immediate effect. The reported effort at settingup isolation center (s) should be fast tracked and a functional centershould be in place in a matter of two or three days at most.” He said.
He also stated that due to the dictate of the office of the governor, he gets in close contact with a lot of people daily including his retinue of aides, all of who should be testedimmediately.
He stressed further that this is not the time to gloat over or castigateanybody for their positive status because its spread must be stoppednow. He added that “a bulwark must be hastily erected against thespread of the virus into the local community“.

At the time of writing this report, the total number of confirmedcases by the NCDC in the country is now 131 with two deaths.
The index case in Oyo – the pacesetter State is now eight.
