Ibadan-born chairman of Constain West Africa, and a governorship candidate, Mr Ayodeji Karim has appealed to members of the breakaway faction of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Unity Forum to embrace the party’s reconciliatory effort to forge a united party towards the 2019 national election.
Though, the aggrieved APC members who were dissatisfied with the conduct and outcome of the last congresses in the state claimed to have reached a consensus to decamp and join the African Democratic Forum, ADC, the APC governorship hopeful pleaded with them to retrace their steps and come back to the main fold to strengthen the unity of the party, stating that there is strength in unity.
Speaking in a chat with journalists in Ibadan yesterday, Karim described the disagreement among members of the ruling party in the state as a misunderstanding within a family that must be amicably resolved, urging all the aggrieved members to have the same mindset.
OYO INSIGHT had last week reported how members of the breakaway faction visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo on their planned defection to the ADC.
But, the governorship aspirant, an associate of governor Ajimobi, warned against taking what he described as ‘rash decision’ to leave the party they all labored to build and appealed to them to embrace reconciliation which the has put in place.
He commended the efforts of the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the state governor Abiola Ajimobi and the state Chairman of the party , Chief Akin Oke for working hard to reconcile all members of the party .
Kareem, a holder of Bachelor degree in Materials Engineering and Design/Manufacturing both from the University of Wales, United kingdom who stated reasons for his interest in the exalted seat, maintained that APC would sweep the votes both in the state and national level in 2019 general election due to the integrity of the party which other parties lacked.
He, therefore, implored all aggrieved party members in the state to consolidate on their past effort to build the party and reap the fruits of their labour rather than allowing a minor family disagreement to deny them of all the benefits to be enjoyed from the victory of APC come 2019.
“The support system and credible machinery of the APC across the country will be able to sail us through during 2019 poll, ” he said, while disclosing his plans to increase the Internally generated revenue of the state and add value to the improvement in the quality of life of the people of the state with growth oriented ideas and policies.
Speaking further on his intention to join the growing list of APC governorship flagbearers, Kareem said,” my foray into political leadership at this time is to consolidate on the efforts of all past government in the state, who have all labored within the rigours of politics to lay a foundation for the socio- political and economic development of Oyo state.”
