A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, has said that his party would have won by a wider margin in the Ibarapa House of Assembly bye-election were it not for the unwarranted show of naked force which Governor Ajimobi brought into the peaceful community on the eve of the election.
The seat became vacant following the death of late speaker Adesina Michael Adeyemo, who represented the constituency between 2011 and 2017.
Late Adeseun Ogundoyin’s son, Adebo of the PDP, defeated the late speaker’s younger brother, Kunle Adeyemo of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement issued by the Seyi Makinde Organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Makinde said that the victory of the PDP will be replicated in next year’s general election in a more emphatic manner to bring genuine change to the polity.
According to him, Ajimobi should start preparing his handover notes, as “the people are tired of your misrule. In fact, those who contributed to his victory in the 2011 and 2015 elections, have deserted him. For long, people tolerated his woeful performance thinking he was going to up his game.
“The result of the run off speaks volume about the frustration of our people and the lesson is very clear that the masses must never be taken for granted again,” the statement said.
While thanking the leadership of the PDP in the state, he urged to forge ahead “as this is not the time to rest. This victory is sweet but a major task is ahead of us. We must win more souls, strategise and get the present administration out of Agodi Government House.”
