Following the demolition of their abattoir at Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, by the state government, butchers have staged a protest to the state secretariat
In their hundreds, the protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Eyin ara ilu e gba wa o’ ‘ APC, butchers voted you to power, don’t let us vote your party out’ and ‘APC ni apapo e gba wa o’.
One of them, Tunji Jigan, who spoke to journalists on behalf of others, lamented that the abattoir was destroyed at the weekend and they have come to let the government know about the incident.
Speaking onthe directive by the state government that all butchers should relocate to the new central abattoir at Amosun village in Akinyele local government of the state, Jigan noted that the case was already in court and government should allow the court give verdict before asking them to relocate.
It was gathered that appeals from security personnel and government officials to the butchers to assign representatives to meet with government representatives initially proved abortive before they later succumbed.
Addressing the protesters, deputy governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, assured them that the case would be presented to the Governor and subsequent meeting with the butchers’ representatives would be initiated for amicable resolution.
Meanwhile, the state government had urged the butchers to exercise patience while the case was being looked into
