As popular Ibadan-born Islamic preacher, Sheikh Muyideen Bello, celebrates his 78th birthday, a governorship aspirant, Prof. Adeolu Akande has said that his kind are rare.
Akande, in a statement in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, stated that “I grew up to know Sheikh Bello in my formative years at Idi Arere area of Ibadan where I was born.
“During Ramadhan especially, we will gather to listen to his sermon at one of our Neighbours’ house. Just like in the past, his sermons deal with current realities, especially politics.
“No doubt he is one of the best preachers we have in the country. During the dark days of military regimes in the country, he was one of the few preachers who spoke truth to power. He is never afraid to say the truth.”
While praying God to continue to be with the old man, he asked the state government to establish an Elders’ Advisory Board where the experiences of people like Sheikh Bello can come to use.
