Ayoola, 2 Female Professors Emerge New DVCs In UI

    Professors E.O Ayoola, Aderonke M. Baiyeroju and Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose have emerged new deputy vice-chancellors at the University of Ibadan.

    While Ayoola will be in charge of administration, Baiyeroju will be charge of academics and Bamgbose, a senior advocate of Nigeria, will be in charge of research, innovation and strategic partnership.

    Ayoola defeated Prof. Oluwasemire with 453 to 73 votes. Baiyeroju trounced Adeyemo with 320 to 200 votes. Bamgbose had 448 against Arinola’s 112 votes.

    OYOINSIGHT.COM understands that the new vice-chancellor of the institution, Professor Kayode Adebowale, nominated them.

    This, this newspaper learnt, is in accordance with the provisions of section 4(2) and (3) of decree no. 11 of 1993 (NOW Act of 1993): “(2) where a vacancy occurs in the post of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor shall forward to the Senate a list of two (2) candidates for each post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor that is vacant.

    Two candidates were nominated for each office, out of which one will emerge after an election.

    “The Senate shall select for each vacant post one candidate from each list forwarded to it under sub-section (2) of this section and forward his name to the Council for confirmation,” a statement by the institution’s directorate of public communication explained.

    Professors K. O. Oluwasemire, of the department of soil resources management, faculty of agriculture, and E. O. Ayoola, of mathematics, faculty of science, were nominated for DVC administration role.

    Professors Aderonke M. Baiyeroju, of the department of ophthalmology, faculty of clinical sciences, college of medicine and D. A. Adeyemo, of the department of counseling and human development studies, faculty of education were nominated for the position of DVC academic.

    Professors. O. G. Arinola, of the department of immunology, faculty of basic medical sciences, college of medicine and a senior advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, of the department of public law, faculty of law were nominated for DVC research, innovation and strategic partnership.
