A Chieftain of Oyo State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a. Auxilliary  has attributed the attack by armed robbers, who invaded the University of Ibadan’s (UI) students hostel on Sunday to insensitivity of the Federal Government to state of insecurity in the country.

Auxiliary, who stated this in his Sallah message to both Muslims and Christians, however, sympathised with the affected students and pray Almighty Allah to heal their wounds.

The NURTW chief described the attack as an embarrassment to the nation and a reflection of how insensitive the Federal Government was to lives and properties of even students.

He said: “I am disturbed and badly embarrassed hearing the news of another attack within the spate of two months on UI students’ hostel by some gunmen suspected to be armed robbers. So, even schools are no longer safe for our children again in Nigeria. Where do the government expect us to move our children to or how do they expect good learning under such volatile environment?

“Since the first attack on these innocent students (Awolowo Hall) of this great institution in July, this year, in a sane environment, one would have expected the Federal Government to beef up security around the institution and carry out a serious and meaningful investigation to fish out the criminals among the residents of the institution.

“We should not forget that UI is a town on its own, and that compounded the work of the institution’s security department; hence the urgent needs to engage the services of competent security agencies like Department of Security Services (DSS) and Military Intelligence Agency to tackle the criminals.”

Auxiliary called on the state governor to assist the institution to tackle its deteriorating state of insecurity by granting it the needed support.
