Former chairman of the Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant during the 2019 general elections, Barr. Akeem Agbaje, has congratulated the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, on yesterday’s Supreme Court judgment.
The Supreme Court, OYOINSIGHT.COM understands, had Friday afternoon faulted the removal of elected council chairmen by Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo State.
Not satisfied with their removal, the council bosses had to go from high court through to the appellate court before today’s supreme court judgement.
Though they were not returned to their council areas, the court, however, asked the Makinde administration to pay the salaries and allowances before August 2021.
Agbaje, while thanking God for the victory, appreciated the judiciary for rising up to its solemn responsibility of ensuring that justice prevails, stressing that the judgment was a clear indication that the third arm of government is the last hope of the common man.
He described it as a true reflection of the wishes of the people of the state, especially those at the grassroots.
“I sincerely appreciate the fighting spirit and the good leadership provided by the ALGON executives led by Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye. Your commitment to the fight to uphold true democracy at the local government level is highly commendable,” he said.
Agbaje also urged the executive chairmen and councilors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyo state chapter and all APC stakeholders in Oyo State to remain united with a view to dislodging the PDP government in the 2023 General elections.
He urged the Governor Seyi Makinde to respect the rule of law and do the needful in the interest of peace and tranquility in the state.
