With the death of Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lateef Oyelade, 15 vacancies now exist in the Otun line of the Olubadan Chieftaincy system, OYOINSIGHT.COM can report.
This newspaper understands that Ibadan chieftaincy system is unique because of its two lines of succession— Otun (civil) and Balogun (military).
Apart from hundreds of Mogajis who will jostle to enter the Jagun line, which is the entry point to the lines, 15 chiefs will have their titles changed.
Queuing behind the deceased senior chiefs were Agba-Akin, Aare Alasa, Ikolaba, Asaaju, Ayingun, Aare Ago, Lagunna, Oota, Aare Egbe Omo, Gbonnka, Aare Onibon, Bada, Ajia and Jagun.

OYOINSIGHT.COM’s checks show that prominent among the senior chiefs to be promoted are Yekinni Adeojo, Ismail Akinade Fijabi, Saka Fola Lapade, Teslim Folarin, Muibi Ademola Adewuyi, Rauf Yesufu Delesolu, Ahmed Olatunji Lanihun, Dauda Kolawole Gbadamosi, William Oyeleke Akande, Oluyinka Akande, Taofeek Ogunwale, Wasiu Aderoju Alaadorin, Muyiwa Makinde and Abiola Iyiola who was the last mogaji to be elevated to Jagun.

Though the Olubadan has the final say on who enters the Jagun line from among the Mogajis, many believe that billionaire businessman, Dotun Sanusi should be considered. Sanusi, who owns the number hospitality facility in Oyo State, Ilaji hotels and sports resorts, is the mogaji of Olugbade compound of Ibadan South East local government. His philanthropic work has earned him accolades from within and far. This newspaper recalls that the immediate past Olubadan, Ọba Saliu Adetunji, made him the Otun Apesinola of Ibadanland for that gesture. Apart from breathing life into Akanran, headquarters of Ona-Ara local government, he recently donated 80 transformers to communities in the ancient city.
Another prominent mogaji who may want to move to Jagun is Akin Alabi. The two-term lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency pioneered online betting in Nigeria with NairaBet. The football enthusiast, at a time, attempted to buy Ibadan darling soccer team, 3SC, apart from giving the club a sponsorship deal.
There are many other notable mogajis who, in the coming days, will start jostling.
The promotion and installation is usually done 21 days after the demise of a chief.
