The Chairman of ALGON in Oyo State, Prince Abass Alesinloye has described last Wednesday’s Appeal Court judgement in ALGON against Oyo Governnent’s case as a shocking one which did not address the issues.
Speaking in an interview aired on BOTTOMLINE a political programme on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan monitored by our Correspondent, Alesinloye said the judgement is against the Supreme Court’s rulings on local government.
“Its so funny, with due respect to their Lordships, I think it was a judgement that went against the Supreme Court judgement because first, in that judgement, it was not said that we are not duly elected, the judgement did not say the Governor has the right to sack us, we are all intellectuals but of course, when things like this want to crop up, a little technicality will come up and that was why I said it was against the judgement of the Supreme Court on local governnent and based on that, we have had several meetings and I am telling you that we are going ahead to the highest Court in the land, the Supreme Court believing that we will be helping democracy by doing so. That is what we are up to for now.
According to him, the ALGON’s agitation is not for selfish reasons but to fight for the people at the grassroot.
But Kunle Kalejaiye (SAN) in an excerpt on the programme said the ALGON’s case is faulty abinitio and that was the Court decided on. ” Court deals with fact. You dont stay in a corner and say some people told you that they are going to send you away when they have not sent you away. That was what was brought to Court. Nobody complained to the Court that anybody was sent away so that was the basis that the Appeal Court gave its judgement.
