The embittered governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in Oyo state, Tawfiq Tayo Akinwale has never been a committed member of the party despite efforts by the party to help his ambition.
Akinwale has always wanted to use his ticket as a bait for other political positions but the party became smarter and that was the beginning of his bitterness against the party leadership.
Reacting to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Samuel Abodunrin and credited to Akinwale recently, the state chairman of the party in Oyo state, Atayese Olatunji Sadiq, said “Akinwale has always demonstrated garrulous tendencies but he was made to know that he cannot be more superior than the leadership of the party. Therefore, his defection to APC can be described as “good riddance to bad rubbish.
Qudirat Hakeem-Apanpa, public relations officer of the party quoted Atayese as saying that “It is very glaring that Akinwale has never had the interest of becoming the governor of the state because he never had the charisma, financial muscles and even the popularity it takes to become the governor of the state. No doubt that he was a good actor and he made many unsuspecting people to believe his fake posture.
“He had always wanted to trade the position with the APC without carrying the leadership of the party along and this eventually backfired against him, else his grievance against the leadership of the party.
“Akinwale has always been very rude, aggressive and disrespectful to the members, executives and elders of the party, but the party was enduring his excesses because he happened to be the flag bearer of the party.
“In fact, labour party would have been better off without a gubernatorial candidate
“It is on record that membership of the party across the length and breadth of oyo state are happy with his exit,” the statement added.
